How To Maximize Your Day And Become More Efficient

Ever wonder how the new guy at work has risen in the company so quick, yet for some reason, you work your butt off every day and haven’t seen a promotion in years?
In some cases, it’s not because they are working harder than you – but it could be because they are working smarter.
Successful people have a real knack for finding a loop in the system and manipulating it in a way so that they accomplish more work in less time – all while not having any major sacrifice to the quality of their work.
No, we’re not talking about fancy drugs or cheating the system – these are very basic methods that everyone should adopt into their work and life.
In this guide, we are going to break down the most effective methods used by successful people to make the most of their day.
Lessons For Efficiency
Efficiency is the idea of getting as many tasks completed as possible within a short period of time.
Think back to when you had your first detention. Chances are you wrote out each word in a row 20-30 times instead of writing out the entire phrase over and over again. This could be considered one of the first times where you used efficiency in your life.
Same goes for when you were taking notes in class. You likely didn’t write down everything – just the important bits of information that would help you understand the concept.
In this way, you could maximize the amount of time you spend in the classroom listening to the teacher all while writing down the content you need. There is no sense writing down every bit of information when some of it isn’t important, right?
That’s just common sense, but for some reason when people get into their job or work setting they settle in and forget that there are many things they can do in order to ensure they are having the greatest possible success.
Here are some of the best methods successful people use in order to ensure they are making the most of their time:
Emphasize Organization
It really does not matter what job you are looking at or what profession you are talking to – organization is essential. Even if the person is not organized they will likely hire some who is organized to help get their job in order.
Simple things like creating to-do lists and writing down everything they need to do for sales targets or future revenue is organized into actionable goals. This leads us to point number two.
Set Actionable Goals
This is the bread and butter of success. If I asked you to think of a goal right now, most people would simply list of something they want to do.
For example… someone might say they want to lose 10 pounds or increase their sales by 10%.
This is not an actionable goal – what exactly will you be doing in order to make this happen?
Instead of saying you want to increase sales by 10% you would be better to create a goal that is actionable. Instead, an actionable goal could be to create 3 new leads each month through networking. These leads will usually convert (if you’re good at what you do) and turn into an increase in sales.
The idea here is to have goals that push you in a direction, instead of being so open-ended you do not know where to start.
Use Objectives and Key results
This is one of the best methods that we can adopt from high-performing people and companies. Objectives and key results, better known as OKR’s are a way of measuring and tracking everything you are doing from the day – to week – to month – to quarter.
The objectives are similar to your goals. Say for example your objective is to hire a new Talent Specialist. This would make the key results; post a job, set up interviews with 5 people and pick a successful candidate.
The key results, when completed, should lead you to obtain and complete the objective.
In this way you can have a master spreadsheet that details all of your objectives (goals) and how you plan to accomplish each of them.
An objective of increasing sales by 5% may have upwards of 5-7 key results. Whatever it takes to complete the objective you should record and share with your coworkers.
Communicate Effectively
Putting aside strategies for organization and effective work, one of the best ways to ensure your job is running smoothly is to communicate effectively. This means throwing your ego out the window and understanding that there are people that can assist you.
Communicating effectively will also help to show your superiors that you are a team player – which is essential to moving up the ladder.
Eat Good Food
So many people underestimate the benefits of a complete and nutritious diet. When it comes to eating healthy, sometimes they skip out on diet and think that since they have a coffee and muffin for lunch that they will have more time to complete their work.
This just is not helpful
Good food leads to better productivity and a higher performing brain. Think about the most successful person you know – do they chomp down on dollar burgers or are they eating a balanced meal?
Do yourself a favour and commit to a balanced diet that emphasizes whole-foods.
Commit To Exercise
This might seem like it is just more time out of your busy day, but exercise can be a very effective tool to keep the mind and body sharp – all while providing you with a great source of happiness.
Let us not forget – a happy person is an effective person.
Engaging in exercise can help to limit stress, improve body composition and give you other things to think about and motivate yourself with – outside of work.
How To Maximize Your Day And Become More Efficient
Ensuring that you complete all the work you do on a given day and become more efficient is all about being more conscious of your actions.
If you find yourself daydreaming the day away, take a moment to step back and think about if this job is something that provides you with a sense of fulfilment.
If you enjoy your work and are willing to commit to simple and effective strategies for success, this guide will do nothing but help you.
Making the most of your time isn’t difficult, but ironically, it does take some added time and work. Not to worry, with dedication and great goals, you will be on your way to making the most of your day and maximizing your work quality.
Follow these simple strategies from the world’s most successful people to ensure you are always making strides in the right direction.
